How to turn a ChatGPT story into a printed book

To turn a ChatGPT story into a printed book, ask Inkbind for it in the same conversation, or paste the story on our start page. You get an 8.5-inch square book of 32 pages or more with your pictures, and it arrives in about two weeks. A softcover is $45 and a hardcover $55, standard shipping included.

Maybe the story is for a child’s shelf, a grandparent or a Christmas present. There are three ways to get it from the chat onto paper, from least to most work.

1. Ask for the book inside ChatGPT

With the Inkbind app connected, stay in the conversation where the story is and write something like:

“Turn the bedtime story we just wrote about Lucía and the dragon, with the pictures, into a hardcover book and ship it to my mom in Austin.”

ChatGPT sends the text and the pictures to Inkbind, which lays them out and shows a preview you can page through right in the chat. Change the title or the dedication there and pick hardcover or softcover. Then open the checkout link, enter the address and pay by card on the Inkbind website through Stripe. Nothing is charged inside ChatGPT.

Now and then the pictures don’t make it from the chat to Inkbind. The preview tells you when that happens, and you can add them on the edit page in a minute.

2. Paste it on the web

If you’d rather not connect an app, copy the story out of ChatGPT and paste it on our start page, with a blank line between pages. To save the pictures, open each one in ChatGPT and use the download button, then upload it next to the right page. You get the same preview and the same book. This also works for a story written with Claude, or one you typed up from a notebook.

3. Do the layout yourself

For full control, put the text and pictures into a document at 8.5 × 8.5 inches with 0.125 inches of bleed on every side, export a PDF with the fonts embedded, and upload it to a print-on-demand service. You also need a separate cover file, and its width depends on the spine, which depends on your page count. It works, but it takes an evening, and the cover is the hard part.

Will ChatGPT pictures be sharp enough to print?

Yes, as long as each one is printed at a size it can hold. Printers like 300 pixels per inch, and picture books look fine from about 150. A ChatGPT picture is usually 1024 pixels square, or 1536 × 1024 for wide and tall ones. Inkbind checks the actual pixel size of every picture:

Inkbind never enlarges a picture past what it can hold, so none come out blurry. If a picture is too small for its page, the editor tells you before you order.

What a printed ChatGPT story book costs

A softcover is $45 and a hardcover $55, standard shipping included, for 32 pages or more. Extra copies of the same book to the same address are $32 for a hardcover and $25 for a softcover, which helps when every grandparent wants one. If a copy arrives damaged or misprinted, email a photo within 30 days of delivery and we reprint it for free.

Ordering for Christmas

Printing and standard delivery take 10–18 business days. Order by December 1 for standard delivery before Christmas, or by December 10 with express shipping.

Check the characters first

If the story uses characters someone else owns, such as Elsa, Spider-Man or Paw Patrol, no printer will print it. Rename them. Kids rarely mind when the dragon is named after their cat.
