A personalized book for Dad, written by the people who know him
A personalized book for Dad is a book about him that the family writes with ChatGPT’s help, from letters by the kids to the stories he tells at every barbecue. Inkbind prints it as an 8.5-inch square hardcover for $55 or a softcover for $45, shipping included, and it arrives in 10–18 business days.
Dads are hard to shop for. Most of them already own the drill, the grill and three fleece jackets. What they don’t have is a book where the family wrote down, in their own words, what he means to them.
Four kinds of book about Dad
- Letters from the kids. Each child writes a page, or dictates one if they can’t write yet. ChatGPT can fix the spelling without changing what they said.
- Things Dad says. One page each for “Ask your mother,” “We’re not lost” and whatever he says when someone touches the thermostat.
- His stories, told back to him. The time the car broke down in Nebraska, the job interview in the wrong building, each one a short chapter.
- His own memoir. Interview him with ChatGPT and print his life in his words.
When to give it
A birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day or retirement all work. For Father’s Day, start three or four weeks ahead, since printing and standard delivery take 10–18 business days. For Christmas, order by December 1 with standard shipping or by December 10 with express. A retirement book has room for stories from coworkers, if you can get them to send something.
Collect the material with ChatGPT
Ask everyone in the family for two or three memories. Specific beats sweet: the burnt pancakes are better than “he was always there for us.” Paste them all into one ChatGPT conversation and ask it to sort them into pages. If you’re making his memoir, let ChatGPT run the interview:
“Interview my dad about growing up in Pittsburgh and his first job at the steel mill. Ask one question at a time, follow up when he mentions a person or a place, and keep his exact words.”
Then ask for one letter or one chapter at a time, and tell ChatGPT not to add anything nobody said. Read each page out loud. If it sounds like a greeting card, put the real words back.
Add pictures
You can ask ChatGPT for a picture per page, like Dad as a cartoon at the grill, or use your own photos. Old prints photographed in daylight work fine. Upload them in the editor on our site next to the right page. Inkbind checks the size of each picture and tells you if one is too small to print sharply.
Turn it into a book
With the Inkbind app connected, ask for the book in the same ChatGPT conversation. In the chat you can change the title and the dedication and pick hardcover or softcover. You edit pictures and text in the editor on our site. If you’d rather skip the app, paste the text on our start page. Either way you get a personalized story book for Dad of 32 pages or more, and you see every page before you pay.
Price, shipping and extra copies
A hardcover is $55 and a softcover $45, standard shipping included. You pay by card on our site through Stripe, and nothing is charged inside ChatGPT. Lulu prints the book at a plant close to Dad, so you can ship it straight to him. Extra copies to the same address are $32 for a hardcover and $25 for a softcover, which helps if the kids want their own.
If a copy arrives damaged or misprinted, email us a photo within 30 days of delivery and we reprint it for free. We delete the book’s files 90 days after delivery, so order extra copies before then.
Write the dedication last
Keep it short and specific. “For Dad, who still says we’re not lost” gets a laugh at the table and a longer look later, when he’s alone with the book.
