A personalized story book for kids, with your child as the hero
A personalized story book for kids that you write yourself, with ChatGPT’s help, prints as an 8.5-inch square hardcover for $55 or a softcover for $45, shipping included. It arrives in about two weeks. Writing the story takes about twenty minutes, and Inkbind lays it out with your pictures and prints it.
Most personalized children’s books work by swapping a name into a fixed template. Writing your own gives you a book about your actual child: their cat, their street, the thing they were scared of last week.
Write the bedtime story
Start with what your child already loves and one small problem to solve. A prompt that works well:
“Write a bedtime story for a 4-year-old called Lucía who lives by the sea and is a little afraid of the dark. A small dragon who is also afraid of the dark comes to her window. 12 short pages, two or three sentences each, gentle ending.”
Read it aloud once and change anything that doesn’t sound like you. Short sentences read better at bedtime than clever ones. For a six- or seven-year-old, ask for longer pages and a small cliffhanger before the last one.
Put your child in more than the title
A name on the cover is the least of it. The details kids notice are the ones only you know:
- the name of their dog, cat or favorite stuffed animal;
- a real place, like the park, grandma’s kitchen or the walk to school;
- a habit they’ll recognize, such as the sock they always lose;
- the people who love them, as side characters.
Tell ChatGPT these up front, and ask it to use each one once rather than all of them on every page.
Add pictures that stay consistent
Ask ChatGPT for one picture per page in the same style, and describe the main character in the same words each time (“a girl with short dark curls and a yellow raincoat”) so she looks like herself on every page. If one picture drifts, ask for that page again with the description pasted in. Square pictures suit the square page best. You can also use photos or your child’s own drawings. Photograph the drawings in daylight and upload them on the edit page.
Print it
In the same chat, ask Inkbind to turn the story into a hardcover book, or paste it on our start page. A 12-page story becomes a 32-page book: title page, dedication, each picture facing its text, and “The End”. You page through the whole book before you pay. A hardcover is $55 and a softcover $45, shipping included, and if it arrives damaged, we reprint it for free.
A personalized Christmas book for kids
A story set on Christmas Eve, with the dog, the grandparents and the real house in it, is a present no store sells. Printing and standard delivery take 10–18 business days, so order by December 1 for standard delivery before Christmas, or by December 10 with express.
Write the dedication last
Kids reread the dedication page more than adults expect. “For Lucía, who is braver than any dragon” is the line she’ll remember.
