A personalised children’s book you write yourself
You can write a personalised children’s book with ChatGPT in about twenty minutes, with your child, their pets and their street in the story. Inkbind prints it as a 21.6 cm square hardback for £42 or a paperback for £34, delivered in about two weeks.
Many personalised book companies drop a name into a fixed template, so every child gets the same story with “Oliver” or “Amelia” swapped in. A story you write yourself can be about their cat, the walk to nursery and the thing that scared them last week.
Write the story
Start with something your child already loves and one small problem to solve. A prompt that works well for a personalised bedtime story book:
“Write a bedtime story for a four-year-old called Isla who lives by the sea in Whitby and is a bit afraid of the dark. A small dragon who is also afraid of the dark comes to her window. Twelve short pages, two or three sentences each, gentle ending.”
Read it aloud once and change anything that doesn’t sound like you. Short sentences work better at bedtime than clever ones, and a repeated line (“and the dragon said, not yet”) gives a small child something to join in with.
Make it theirs
The details are what make a personalised story book for kids worth keeping. Put in:
- Real names: brothers, sisters, the dog, Nana and Grandad.
- Real places: the park down the road, the beach you go to every summer, their nursery.
- One true thing that happened, like the wobbly tooth or the new baby.
- Their own words, if they’ve said something you want to remember.
Add pictures
Ask ChatGPT for one picture per page in the same style, and describe the main character identically each time (“a girl with short dark curls and a yellow raincoat”) so she looks the same from page to page. Square pictures fit our 21.6 cm square page best.
Print it
In the same chat, ask Inkbind to turn the story into a hardback, or paste it on our start page and upload the pictures there. A twelve-page story becomes a 32-page book: title page, dedication, each picture facing its text, and “The End”. A hardback is £42 with delivery included; a paperback is £34 and lighter to carry. If it arrives damaged, we reprint it free.
A personalised Christmas book
A story set on Christmas Eve, with the dog, the grandparents and your actual house in it, is a present no shop sells. Order by 3 December for standard delivery before Christmas, or by 12 December with express.
A personalised baby book
At first, a baby book is for the parents. A gentle story about the day they arrived, or a short letter for each month of the first year, makes a personalised baby book that gets read properly once they’re old enough to ask about it.
Characters you can’t use
Keep the cast original. We can’t print characters owned by others, such as Peppa Pig, Paddington, the Gruffalo or anyone from Disney. A made-up dragon is just as good, and it belongs to your child.
Write the dedication last
Once you know what the story turned into, the dedication is easy. One line is enough: “For Isla, who is braver than any dragon.”
